60 Alums Earn 2018 Web.com Status

Wednesday November 15th, 2017

For Professional golfers, the hard work, dedication and commitment to strive to get better has made them who they are. For those players who earned a spot into the Final Stage of Q-School, and in turn earned Web.com Tour status for 2018, Final Stage will offer them a chance to improve on their status. For 60 ST TOUR Alums, the skills they have honed and developed over time, now have them 1 step closer to advancing to the PGA Tour

The 2nd Stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying got started on Halloween in Dothan, Alabama and Murrieta, California.

In Dothan, Alabama 14 Alums advanced through to Final Stage. 3-Time National Series winner Nick Rousey advanced after finishing his 4 rounds at 3-under par. Also advancing out of the Dothan site was ST TOUR winner Kevin Hall. Hall who was awarded a sponsor exemption into the 2017 Genesis Classic via the Charles Sifford Memorial Exemption, finished 2nd Stage in a Tie for 10th. Other notables to advance out of the Dothan site were Jordan Russell who finished solo 3rd, Chase Parker, JT Griffin, and Blake Palmer.

The Murrieta, California site was led by Brett Lederer, who finished in a Tie for 2nd. Kyle Jones finished in a Tie for 6th and Kevin Dougherty finished in 10th. Michael Weaver rounded out the group to advance.

On November 7th, the final 3 sites of 2nd Stage got underway. At the Plantation, Florida site Joey Garber led the way by earning co-medalist honors. Garber who was a 2016 National Series winner in NorthRidge, Texas finished at 13-under par. ST TOUR current member and 9-time winner Justin Lower advanced through to final stage for the 2nd consecutive season. 2017 Compass Pointe winner Christian Brand also advanced through to Final Stage. Brand, who won our 2017 Major at Compass Pointe, also played in the Greenbrier Classic in his native West Virginia, and also finished 6th at the Pinnacle Bank Championship on the Web.com Tour this past season. Prior winner Rick Cochran also advanced.

In Mckinney, Texas, 2-time National Series winner James White advanced through to Final Stage. White who won the 1st National Series event of 2016 at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, Georgia, who won this year at Stone Mountain looks to improve on an already good season. Other notables to advance through the Mckinney site were 2-time State Series winner Edward Loar, Dustin Korte, Brad Hopfinger and Tim Crouch.

The final 2nd Stage site was held in Brooksville, Florida at Southern Hills Plantation. Southern Hills Plantation was the 1st National Series event of 2017 and is making a return to the SwingThought TOUR Schedule in 2018. 2017 3-time winner and current member Grant Leaver finished solo 2nd at 17-under par. Leaver, who has played in 9 SwingThought TOUR events this season, had 4 runner up finishes to go along with his 3 wins.  Advancing along with Leaver was Bruce Woodall. Woodall, who is also a member of the SwingThought TOUR, won twice this season, with his wins coming at Orange Park in Florida and Hampton Cove in Alabama. Both Leaver and Woodall earned sponsorship in the SwingThought TOUR’s “44 Race”. A race in which the Top 44 on the ST Points List each earned $2,000, helping supplement the expenses of Q-School. Other notables to advance from Brooksville were prior champions Mark Blakefield, and Vince India, Conner Godsey, Carlos Sainz, Jack Mcguire and Seth Fair.

The SwingThought TOUR would like to congratulate everyone who advanced through to Final Stage. The grind to make it to the Web.com Tour has made the long days and hard work worth it. Keep your head up now that you are only 1 step away from the ultimate dream of making it to the PGA Tour.

Follow the SwingThought TOUR through Q-School as we will be providing updates and highlighting Alums who advance.

“I’ve found the ST Points system to be very useful in 2017. It rewards good play with being able to reach a free entry quickly and also rewards players who have played regularly on the tour regardless of their performance. The points are as good as cash as they don’t reduce the purse when you use them…which is doubly awesome! I’m happy the Swingthought TOUR has adopted this system. The tour continues to find ways to stand out in the world of mini-tours!’
