Binfield uses Final Round 66 to win by 3 at Harbor Hills
A week marred by fog came to an end Saturday afternoon, when Wade Binfield won at Harbor Hills by 3. Entering the final round, Tommy Gainey (10-under par) held a 2 shot lead over Binfield. Stoney Crouch entered the final round 3 back at 7-under par, while Chas Narramore was at 4-under.
Binfield quickly erased his 3 shot deficit after opening his final round with birdies on 1, 2, 3, and 4 and got to 13-under par. Tommy Gainey started his day with 3 consecutive par’s but followed that up with bogeys on 4 and 5. After Gainey added 3 birdies on 6, 8, and 9 he turned in 1-under 35. Binfield would go on to make a birdie on the 9th to make the turn at 4-under 32 to take a 2 shot lead entering the final 9 holes.
After making the turn, Binfield made par on 10 and 11 before adding a birdie on hole 12. Gainey however would not get his back 9 off to such a good start. He proceeded to bogey 10. 11, and 12 to fall to 2-over on the day and fall to 5 back. After both men made par on 12, Gainey would add a birdie on 14 to cut into Binfield’s lead. On 15, Binfield left himself short-sided with his approach, while Gainey put his 2nd shot on the green and left himself about 10 feet for birdie. Binfield then proceeded to chip in for birdie, while Gainey made his par, and increase his lead to 6.
After his chip in on 15, Binfield would go on to par out to shoot a final round 6-under 66. Gainey would however fight back as he made birdie on 16, 17, and 18 to close the gap to five. Gainey shot a final round 2-under 70 to finish solo 2nd.
In just his 2nd event on the SwingThought TOUR, Stoney Crouch shot a final round Even par 72, to finish in solo 3rd. Crouch shot rounds of 74, 68, 67, and 72 to post 7-under overall. Chas Narramore finished in solo 4th at 5-under par after his final round 1-under 71.
