Binfield wins on 3rd playoff hole to win at Black Bear Golf Club
Wade Binfield was crowned your champion for the third time time this season. After 54 holes of golf, Stoney Crouch and Wade Binfield were tied at 14-under. It was on the 3rd hole of the sudden death playoff that Binfield was able to seal the victory in dramatic fashion. Anthony Maccaglia finished solo third firing a 3 day total of 3-under.
Stoney Crouch posted a 67-65 the first two rounds putting him at the top of the leaderboard at 12-under. Entering the final round Crouch had a 4 shot advantage over Wade Binfield and a 9 shot lead over Anthony Maccaglia. Crouch’s lead quickly faded as Binfield birdied 3 of his first 4 holes to close the gap.
Crouch and Binfield separated themselves from the rest of the field by taking advantage on the par 5s. Over a 54 hole stretch, Crouch played the par 5s at 7-under par. The only player in the field to do better was Binfield, who played the par 5s at 9-under– including an eagle on the 16th hole of the final round.
With one hole remaining, Stoney Crouch had a 1 shot lead over Wade Binfield. Stretching over 454 yards and water surrounding the green, hole number 18 is rated the most difficult hole at Black Bear Golf Club. Wade Binfield played this finishing hole to perfection. Hitting his approach shot to 2 feet, Binfield tapped in for birdie to post a final round 66 and force a playoff with Stoney Crouch (both at a 3 day total of 14-under).
The playoff between Stoney Crouch and Wade Binfield began on a reachable par 5, hole number 16. Both players made par as Binfield lipped out his putt from short distance for birdie. After two comfortable pars on the 17th hole, the players made their way back to hole number 18. Binfield managed to find the green with his approach shot after being forced to take an unplayable penalty from a bush. With the pressure of $5,000 on the line, Wade Binfield proceeded to sink a difficult 35 foot putt to secure the win over Stoney Crouch.
