Binfield Wins Weather Shortened ST School in Dramatic Playoff

Binfield Wins First ST School in Dramatic Playoff

Monday, January 8th 2017:

Heavy rain and high winds at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, FL saw the first round of ST School suspended and then shortened to 54 holes which proved it wasn’t enough to crown the first ever ST School’s winner. A 3 hole playoff was needed, and Wade Binfield (Atlanta, GA | Clayton State) outlasted Chas Narramore (Kingston, TN | Middle Tennessee State University) to claim medalist honors and 13 Free entries in the 2018 SwingThought TOUR season.

After the first round was called, play began on Thursday after a 2 ½ hour frost delay. With winds still gusting and temperatures in the low 40’s, players were facing a tough task. Chas Narramore posted the round of the day Thursday with a 2-under 70. Narramore bogied his first hole of the week, but bounced right back with a birdie on the short par 5 2nd. He also birdied the par 5 7th enroute to an opening 9 35. He followed that up with 2 birdies and a bogey to finish with a back 9 35. His 2-under 70 left him with a 1 shot lead over Binfield heading into the 2nd round.

After opening with a 1-under 71 in round 1, Wade Binfield got hot during round 2. With slightly warmer temperatures and calmer winds, Binfield scored a 66, recording 8 birdies on National Bird Day! Binfield started his day with a birdie on 2, then followed that up with birdies on 4, 6, and 7 before a bogey on 9 to shoot a front 9 3-under 33. Binfield made 4 consecutive birdies on holes 13-16 before bogeying 17 to match his front 9 33.

Round 1 leader Chas Narramore continued his solid play as he shot his 2nd straight round of 2-under 70. Narramore once again turned in 35. He birdied 10, 11, and 12 but stumbled down the stretch making bogies on 14 and 17. Making a move during round 2 was Anthony Maccaglia. Maccaglia who opened with a first round 74, shot a bogey free 7-under 65 to move up the leaderboard. Maccaglia birdied holes 2, 4, 7, and 8 enroute to an opening 9 4-under 32. He made 3 more birdies on the back to move into solo 2nd heading into the final round.

The final round started with a delay the same as the first 2 rounds. Starting his day 3 shots behind, Chas Narramore got off to a hot start. He birdied his first hole. He followed that up with a birdie on the 3rd hole and finished his front 9 with a 2-under 34. Narramore then made a charge on the back 9. He birdied 12, eagled the short par 4 13th, and then made 2 more birdies on 14 and 15 to shoot a final round 7-under 65.

Overnight leader Wade Binfield made birdie on the par 5 2nd but bogied 3. He added a birdie on hole 8 to shoot a front 9 35. Binfield made the turn and birdied 12 and 13. He added birdies on 16 and 18 but also made a bogey on 17. He finished with a final round 4-under 68 to match Narramore at 11-under par for the tournament.

During the sudden death playoff, both men bogied the 1st hole, and both then followed that up with birdies on the short par 5 2nd. After an errant drive, and a second shot that hit the trees, Binfield put his 3rd shot on the green and made his putt for par. Narramore meanwhile hit his approach on the 3rd into the front greenside bunker, and after he failed to get up and down for par, Binfield walked away as medalist for the event.

With his win at ST School, Binfield earns 13 free entries for the 2018 season. He earns eight 44 Series entries, 4 Major event entries, and entry into the 2018 SwingThought TOUR Championship. With their finishes Chas Narramore and Anthony Maccaglia (Tampa, FL | Oglethorpe University) each earn 9 free entries for 2018. Narramore and Maccaglia each earn eight 44 Series entries and an entry into the 2018 SwingThought TOUR Championship.
