Claytor shoots course record 62 enroute to 6th STTOUR victory
After windy conditions prevailed during the first 2 rounds at Eagle Harbor Golf Club, 4 players found themselves within 2 shots of the lead entering the final round. With calmer conditions, the final round provided players the perfect opportunity to go low, and they did not disappoint.
At the start of the final round, Daniel Claytor and Tommy “2 Gloves” Gainey found themselves tied for the lead at 6-under par. Grant Leaver was 1 shot back at 5-under and Bruce Woodall was 2 back at 4-under.
After back to back rounds of 3-under 69, Gainey entered the final round looking for his 2nd victory of the season. Daniel Claytor played his way into the final pairing after a 5-under 67 during the 2nd round.
Daniel Claytor entered the final round tied with Tommy Gainey. Claytor got off to a hot start as he quickly birdied 2,3, and 4. He added another birdie on 6 and closed out his front 9 with an eagle on 9 to shoot a front 9 6-under 30. After pars on 10 and 11, Claytor made back to back birdies on 12 and 13 to get to 8-under on the day. Claytor would go on to add 2 more birdies on 17 and 18 to fire a bogey free course record 10-under 62. This is Claytor’s 2nd victory of the season, and his 6th victory on the SwingThought TOUR.
Starting the final round at 3-under par Anthony Maccaglia found himself in a position where he needed to go low. He started his day with birdie on the par 5 2nd hole. After a stretch of 4 straight pars on 3,4,5, and 6 Maccaglia made his 2nd birdie of the day on 7. He added another birdie on 9 to make the turn at 3-under. Maccaglia kept his front 9 momentum going as he made 3 consecutive birdies on 10,11 and 12 to start his back 9. After a bogey on 13, Maccaglia quickly got back on the birdie train in a big way. He birdied 14,15,16, and 17 to get to 9-under par on the day and rocket himself up the leaderboard and solo 2nd finish.
Bruce Woodall entered the final round 2 shots back of Claytor and Gainey. Woodall got off to a fast start as he birdied 1,2 and 3. Woodall went on make 6 consecutive pars to make the turn at 3-under. After making the turn, Woodall made birdies on 11 and 12. After pars on 13,14 and 15, Woodall made back to back birdies on 16 and 17 to fire a final round 7-under 65 to earn a solo 3rd finish.
Tommy Gainey and Grant Leaver rounded out the top 5 as they both finished at 10-under par. Leaver shot a final round 5-under 67. Leaver made 3 consecutive birdies to start his day. He added another birdie on 5 before making back to back bogies on 6 and 7 and made the turn at 2-under. After birdies on 11,12,14 and 17. He made bogey on 18 to post a 5-under 67. Tommy Gainey started his day with a birdie on 2. It was his lone birdie on the front 9, as he turned in 1-under 35. Gainey made a bogey on 10, but quickly bounced back with birdies on 11 and 13. He added 2 more birdies on 16 and 17 to shoot a final round 4-under 68, as he and Leaver finished in a tie for 4th.
U-Minn Woon an amateur from Jacksonville made the cut at 3-under par. He shot a final round 3-under 69 to finish in 6th.
