Friday July 21st, 2017: On Thursday, in an area where “Roll Tide” is heard everyday, Daniel Claytor was rolling through his final round at RiverChase. Daniel Claytor started the day 3 shots behind the leader, but after his final round he erased that deficit and won by 3. He opened with a front nine 31 which included birdies on 2,5,and 7 and a chip in eagle at the 8th. He continued his torrid pace with 4 more birdies on the back 9 to shoot a final round 63 and claim his 2nd National Series victory of the season. After opening with a bogey free 4-under 68, Claytor entered the final round tied with Shea Sylvester for 2nd behind Luke Hopkins. Claytor also won the Bradley Putters Open at Bryan Park, and a Carolina Series event at Myrtle Beach National this season, just a week apart from each other. Claytor will enter the final stretch of “The 44” race 2nd in the Points Standings.
Entering the final round, Luke Hopkins had 3 shot lead over Claytor and Shea Sylvester. Hopkins making the turn at 1 under, Hopkins found himself tied with Claytor entering the final 9 holes. Hopkins birdied 10,13,16, and 17 to get within one of the lead coming to 18. After a bad tee shot, Hopkins doubled 18 to drop to 10-under and finish solo 2nd. Hopkins started the week with a bogey free 7-under 65 which included a hole out for eagle on 16. This is Hopkins 3rd Top 5 of the season and his 2nd Solo 2nd finish of the year.
