Deason Earns 2nd Victory of Season at Tega Cay

Twice as nice for Deason in Charlotte

Chip Deason earned his 2nd victory of the season at Tega Cay, just outside of Charlotte. Deason entered the final round with a 1 shot lead over Will Cannon, after rounds of 65 and 69.

Deason got his final round off to a great start as he made a birdie on the first hole. He then added back-to-back birdies on 3 and 4, before making a bogey on 7 to make the turn at 2-under par. After making the turn, Deason made birdies on 11 and 13, but made another bogey on 15. After his bogey, Deason bounced right back with birdies on 16, and 17 and made par on 18 to shoot a final round 5-under 67 to win by 1. This is Deason’s 2nd victory of the season, and his 2nd one in the Charlotte area.

Finishing in 2nd, was Daniel Claytor. Claytor who often finds his name in SwingThought leaderboards, shot a final round 63 to vault up the leaderboard. Claytor got off to a fantastic start during the final round as he opened up with birdies on 1,2,3 and 4. He made a par on 5 but made back-to-back bogeys on 6 and 7, and he made the turn at 2 under. Claytor’s momentum returned after he made an eagle on the short par 4 11th. He added a birdie on 14, but followed that up with a bogey on 15. Claytor then made back-to-back eagles on the par 5 16th and 17th, and then added another birdie on 18 to shoot a back 9 7-under 29, and post 14-under overall. With this finish Claytor now has 10 finishes inside the top 5, including 3 wins.

Finishing in solo 3rd was Alex Carpenter. Carpenter entered the final round 2 shots behind Deason. Like many players Carpenter got off to a good start and made birdie at the short par 5 1st. He then added back-to-back birdies on 3 and 4 before making 4 consecutive pars. Carpenter would then add another birdie on 9 to make the turn at 4-under par. Carpenter added another birdie on 12 after making the turn. He made his first bogey of the day on 15, but bounced back with a birdie on 16. He closed with 2 par’s to finish at 13-under and 2 shots behind Deason.
