Zach Edmondson got a huge momentum boost as Q-School approaches, after he earned his first victory on the SwingThought TOUR at Callaway Gardens.
Edmondson got his tournament started with a 6-under 66. He then followed that up with a 2nd round 5-under 67 followed by a final round 3-under 69 to post a 3 day total of 14-under par to win by 1. Edmondson entered the final round in a tie for the lead with Luke Hopkins. Edmondson got his final round off to a fast start after birdies on 1 and 2. He would go on to make a bogey on 7 and he made the turn at 1-under. After making the turn, Edmondson made a birdie on 11 and his final birdie on 17 to capture his maiden victory on the SwingThought TOUR.
Finishing runner-up to Edmondson was Luke Hopkins. Hopkins who had rounds of 4-under 68, and 7-under 65 to put himself in contention, got his final round started with 5 consecutive pars. He made a birdie on 6 but followed that up with a bogey on 7. He would then go on to make another birdie on 8 to make the turn at 1-under. Hopkins would go on to make his lone birdie on the back 9 on 16 to finish with a final round 2-under 70, to finish at 13-under total. With this finish, Hopkins now has his 2nd runner up finish this season.
With a final round 5-under 67, Connor Godsey moved up the leaderboard and into a solo 3rd finish. Godsey got his round started with a birdie on 2. He would follow that up with a bogey on 3, but he would go on to make 3 consecutive birdies on 6,7 and 8 to make the turn at 3-under. After making the turn, Godsey made 6 consecutive pars before making back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to finish at 12-under for the tournament. This was Godsey’s first event on the SwingThought TOUR this season after having status on the Web.com Tour.
Rounding out the top 5 were; Bruce Woodall, Blake Kennedy and Broc Everett. All three men shot final round 5-under 67’s to move from a Tie for 9th into a Tie for 4th. Woodall opened his tournament with a 5-under 67, but couldn’t keep his momentum going in the 2nd round as he shot a 1-under 71. Woodall now has 7 finishes inside the Top 5 this season, including a win and 4 runner up’s. Blake Kennedy and Broc Everett both shot back to back 67’s over the final 2 rounds to vault up the leaderboard. With this finish Kennedy earned his first Top 5 in his 2nd event played this season. Everett, who won the 2018 NCAA Individual Championship earned his first Top 5 finish in his first career SwingThought Event.
