Leaver earns 3rd Victory of 2017 Season

Monday October 2nd, 2017: Grant Leaver secured his 3rd victory of the 2017 season last week, after a final round 1-under 71. Leaver who opened his tournament with bogey free rounds of 3-under 69, and 6-under 66, took the lead heading into the final 2 rounds at Magnolia Grove. Leaver would continue his good play into the third round, where he shot a 4-under 68 to take a 4 shot lead into the final round over Ryan Sullivan. Leaver began his final round with a bogey on the 1st hole, but followed that up with birdies on holes 3 and 4. After a bogey on 9, Leaver made the turn at even par. He made just one lone birdie on the back 9 on hole 13 to finish the day 1-under and 3 shots clear of 2nd. This is Leaver’s third victory of the 2017 season, and his 6th career National Series win. In 8 starts on the SwingThought TOUR he has missed 1 cut and has finishes of 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd and 1st. To add on to that, Leaver also Monday Qualified for and made the cut at the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship, and he also won the Greater Cedar Rapids Open.

Finishing behind Leaver, were Ryan Sullivan, Randy Lowry, and Bobby Wyatt all tied for 2nd. Sullivan started his round in 2nd place, 4 shots behind Leaver. After 3 straight birdies on holes 4, 5, and 6, Sullivan made the turn at 3-under. He made birdies on holes 13 and 15, but he made a bogey on 12 and a costly double bogey on the 14th. After parring out he finished his day 2-under for a 4 round total of 11-under. Sullivan, who is no stranger to SwingThought TOUR Leaderboards earned his 5th Top-5 finish of the season, which include 2 finishes of 2nd and 3 finishes of 4th.

Randy Lowry entered the final round 5 shots back of Leaver. Lowry made an eagle on the par 5 4th hole and followed that up with a birdie on 9 to also make the turn at 3-under. After bogeys on 11 and 13 followed by birdies on 15 and 17 Lowry finished his final 9 holes at even par to get to 11-under.

Playing in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama was Bobby Wyatt. Wyatt, who started the day tied with Lowry at 8-under par got off to a fast start. He made 3 straight birdies on holes 3,4, and 5. He added 2 more birdies on holes 7 and 9 to turn in 5-under 31. Wyatt parred holes 10-15, but made a double bogey on the par 5 16th to finish his day at 3-under.

Rounding out the Top-5 were Peter Creighton and Jesse Speirs. Both men finished at 9-under par. Speirs shot a final round 3-under 69 to move into a tie for 5th, while Creighton shot a 1-under 71 to earn a tie for 5th.
