Ledford Uses Bogey Free Round to Come From Behind at Sanctuary Golf Club
Tuesday March 12th, 2019: Bryce Ledford used a final round bogey free 66 to come from behind and claim his first victory on the SwingThought TOUR at Sanctuary Golf Club. After an opening round 7-under 64, Ledford entered the final round 2 shots behind overnight leader Hunter Stewart. Ledford quickly erased his 2 shot deficit after making birdies on 1 and 2. He would go on to make 6 consecutive pars before adding another birdie on 9 to make the turn at 3-under. After a par on 10, Ledford made back to back birdies on 11 and 12 and ended his round with 6 consecutive pars to shoot a final round 5-under 66 to win by 1.
Finishing in solo 2nd was Hunter Stewart. Stewart entered the final round with a 2 shot lead after opening with a course record bogey free 9-under 62. Unlike Ledford, Stewart wasn’t able to get off to a fast start as he made a double bogey on the par 5 3rd. Stewart would make a lone birdie on 7 and make the turn at 1-over. After making the turn, Stewart went on a 6 hole stretch of birdie, bogey, birdie, eagle, bogey, birdie to get to 11-under par. After missing his birdie attempt on 18, Stewart ended up one shot behind Ledford after shooting a final round 2-under 69.
Greyson Sigg continued his good play this season as his finished in solo 3. Sigg entered the final round in a tie for 8, but shot up the leaderboard with a bogey free 6-under 65. He got his day off to a good start by making a birdie on 2, and he would go on to add birdies on 5 and 7 to make the turn at 3-under. Sigg would then make 6 straight pars before making back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, and then adding another birdie on 17 to finish at 10-under for the tournament. This is Sigg’s 2nd Top 5 finish, and 3rd finish inside the Top 10 in 3 starts this season.
The round of the day belonged to Michael Cromie. Cromie entered the final round in a Tie for 23rd, before a final round bogey free 63 moved him into solo 4th. Cromie’s day started with 4 straight pars but, he made back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6, and also on 8 and 9 to make the turn at 4-under. Cromie kept his great round going with a birdie on 12, before 3 straight birdies on 14, 15, and 16 to move to 8-under on the day, and 9-under for the tournament.
Rounding out the top 5 was Lee Hodges, Zach Seabolt, and Frank Adams. Hodges started his day in a tie for 8th and shot a final round 4-under 67. His round included 4 birdies, a hole out eagle on 9, and 2 bogeys in his first start of the season. Like Hodges, Zach Seabolt entered the final round in a tie for 8th and also shot a 4-under 67. Seabolt made 5 birdies and a lone birdie en route to his 3rd Top 5 of the season, which includes 2 wins. Frank Adams also rounded out the top 5. Adams entered the final round in a tie for 3rd. Adams made birdies on 2,3,6 and 14 but made back-to-back bogies on 17 and 18 to fall back 8-under for the tournament.
