54 holes wasn’t enough to determine a winner at Columbia Country Club, as Kevin Lyles and Tommy Gainey were tied at 12-under after 54 holes. On the first sudden death playoff hole, Lyles made a par to earn his first victory on the SwingThought TOUR.
Entering the final round, Lyles was 1 shot behind the overnight leader Shane Rogan. Lyles got his round off to a good start with a birdie on 3. He followed that up with a bogey on 4, but quickly bounced back with a birdie on 5. Lyles would add another birdie on 7 to make the turn at 2-under. After 5 consecutive par’s to start the back 9, Lyles made birdie on 15. He would go on to make his 2nd bogey of the day on 17, but he was able to bounce back and birdie the 18th to shoot a final round 3-under 69, and earn his spot in the playoff.
Like Lyles, Tommy “2 gloves” Gainey entered the final round 1 shot behind the leader. Gainey got off to a hot start as he eagled the par 5 3rd hole. He would go on to add a bogey on 5, but he would recover and make birdies on 7 and 9 to make the turn at 3 under. Unfortunately, Gainey wasn’t able to keep his front 9 momentum going after he made the turn, as he would go on to record 9 consecutive pars on the back 9 to shoot a final round 3-under 69. This is Gainey’s 6th finish inside the Top-5 this season, including 4 runner ups, and a win.
Finishing in a Tie for 3rd was Anthony Maccaglia, and Shane Rogan. Maccaglia, like most players in the field got off to a fast start by making birdie on the par 5 3rd hole. He made a bogey on 5, but bounced right back with a birdie on the par 5 7th to make the turn at 1-under. Maccaglia would make 8 pars, a lone birdie on the par 5 12th on the back 9, to shoot a final round 2-under 70. With this finish, Maccalgia has finished inside the Top-5 6 times this season.
Shane Rogan entered the final round with a 1 shot lead. He quickly added to his lead buy making a birdie on the opening hole. He would then go on to make bogies on 2, 4, and 5 to fall to 2-over early on. After back to back birdies on 7 and 8 to make the turn at even par. Rogan like Maccaglia, would make 8 pars on the back 9, with his lone birdie coming on the par 5 15th to finish at 1-under for the day. This is Rogan’s first career Top-5 on the SwingThought TOUR.
Rounding to the Top-5 were Bryce Ledford, and Daniel Claytor. Both Ledford and Claytor finished at 10-under total. Ledford shot the round of the day with a final round 4-under 68 to move up the leaderboard. Claytor, who once again found himself near the top of a SwingThought leaderboard shot a final round 3-under 69. This is is 10th finish inside the the Top 5 this season.
