LSU Men’s golf alum Ben Schlottman, fired a final round 4-under 68 to earn his first career SwingThought TOUR victory.
After firing rounds of 68, and 67, Schlottman entered the final round tied with Wade Binfield and 2 shots clear of Bruce Woodall. Schlottman got off to a great start by making birdie on the first hole, he then went on to make 6 consecutive pars before making another birdie on the short par 4 8th hole to make the turn at 2-under par. After a bogey on 11 by Schlottman, and birdies by Woodall and Binfield, Schlottman and Binfield were once again tied for the lead. Schlottman bounced right back and birdied 12, and added another birdie on the par 5 15th. After Schlottman birdied the short par 4 16th, and Binfield made a bogey, Schlottman was up by 3 with 2 holes to go. Schlottman closed with back to back par’s to claim a 3 shot victory over Binfield. This is Schlottman’s first career the win and $10,000.
Finishing in a tie for 2nd was Wade Binfield. A 2nd round 8-under 64 put Binfield in contention and tied for the lead entering the final round. Binfield wasn’t able to keep his hot streak from round 2 going during the final round. He started with 7 consecutive par’s before adding his lone birdie of the frontside on hole 8 to make the turn at 1-under par. Binfield made a bogey on 10, but bounced back with back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12. He made another bogey on the par 4 16th enroute to a 1-under 71. After this finish, Binfield now has 5 finishes of 3rd or better this season.
Also finishing in a tie for 2nd was Bruce Woodall. After starting the final round 2 shots behind, Woodall found himself 1 shot back after back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12. He would finish with 6 consecutive par’s to finish at 10-under. With this finish, Woodall now has 8 finishes inside the Top 5 this year, including 1 win and 5 runner up finishes.
Finishing in solo 4th was Erik Barnes. Barnes, like Binfield put himself into contention after shooting a 6-under 66 during round 2. Barnes was able to keep that momentum rolling into the final round as he shot a 3-under 69 which included 4 birdies and a lone bogey. This is Barnes’ first Top 5 of the season on the SwingThought Tour and his first start since 2013.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Brandon Pierce. After struggling in the final round the week prior, Pierce found himself back in contention. Pierce got off to a hot start and made birdies on 2 and 5, but stumbles on the way in led to an even par round of 72 to earn his first Top 5 on the SwingThought Tour.
