Hunter Stewart shoots final round 64 to win by 5 at Fleming Island

Monday February 27th, 2017–Hunter Stewart showed no mercy to the field or to the Golf Club at Fleming Island as he fired back-to-back bogey-free 3rd and 4th rounds to capture the title.

Stewart a Vanderbilt University alum, cruised to victory with a 5 shot victory over Robby Shelton. Using a bogey free 8-under 63 on Friday, and a bogey free 7-under on Saturday, Stewart erased a 5 shot deficit over the final 2 rounds.

Stewart credited his victory to his hot start on the front 9,  and a his confidence on the greens. “I played the first 5 holes in 15 under for the week and that alone would have put me in contention” he stated. Stewart began his final round with 5 consecutive birdies en route to an 5-under 31 on the front 9. He tallied 2 more birdies coming in on 12 and 13 to reach 23-under for the week. Stewart also credited a comfortable pairing with Robby Shelton during the final 2 rounds as a key. “Robby and I stayed in the same house and have been friends for awhile, so it was a good to be paired with him the final 2 rounds”.

University of Alabama alum Robby Shelton, found himself in contention again heading into the final 2 rounds at Fleming Island. Shelton who posted rounds of 66,67,65, and 68 finished solo 2nd and was 5 shots clear of third. Shelton, who won the first SwingThought TOUR National Series event at Southern Hills Plantation had his second consecutive Top 2 finish.

Grant Leaver 13-under finished in solo 3rd, while Brinson Paolini and James White both finished tied for 4th at 12-under.

The SwingThought TOUR would like to thank Superintendent Mike Pafford and his entire maintenance staff for their incredible job getting the course ready for play.
