Strohmeyer Comes back at Callaway Gardens

Strohmeyer Forces Playoff riding 7 straight Birdies on Final Nine at Callaway Gardens.



Monday September 18th, 2017: Entering the final Round at Callaway Gardens, University of Alabama Alum Scott Strohmeyer was 6 shots behind the leader Joey Garber. By the time they got to the 14th hole both were tied at 14-under. Strohmeyer and Garber each birdied 14,15, and 16 to get to 17-under which lead to a playoff. Both men birdied the par 4 1st hole, and after a massive drive, Strohmeyer had nothing more than an 8 iron into the par 5 2nd. He stuck his 2nd shot to 8 feet and made the eagle to win. This was Strohmeyer’s first career SwingThought TOUR Victory.

After opening the tournament with back to back 68’s, Strohmeyer entered the final round 8-under and 6 back. After shooting an opening 9 34, he found himself 4 shots back heading down the stretch. Strohmeyer proceeded to shoot an inward 7-under 29, that included a stretch of 7 straight birdies from hole 10 thru hole 16. His final round 9-under 63 got him to 17-under.

After opening the tournament with a 61, Joey Garber entered the final round with a 6 shot lead. His opening round 61 included 12 birdies and a bogey. Garber followed up his 61, with a 2nd round 3-under 69. Garber opened his final round up with a birdie on the par 5 2nd and another birdie on hole 6. He made bogeys at 5 and 8, and made the turn at even par. Garber opened his back 9 with pars on 10,11,12 and 13. He then made birdies on 14,15, and 16 finish his final round with a 3-under 69.

Rounding out the Top 5 were Anthony Maccaglia, Ryan Sullivan, and Ryan Troyer. Maccaglia shot rounds of 69,68 and 68 to finish at 11-under and in solo 3rd, to earn his 3rd Top 5 finish this year. Ryan Sullivan jumped into the Top 5 after a final round 5-under 67. In his 4 events this season, Sullivan has yet to post a finish worse than 4th. Rounding out the Top 5 this week was Ryan Troyer. Troyer shot a final round 2-under 70 to finish solo 3rd. This is Troyer’s 3rd Top 5 finish this season.

The SwingThought TOUR would like to give a big thank you to Wyatt Detmer and his entire staff at Callaway Gardens for their amazing work last week. On Monday, Hurricane Irma rolled right through the Pine Mountain, GA area knocking down trees on both of the courses at Callaway Gardens. By Wednesday afternoon all the damage caused by Hurricane Irma was removed and the course was ready to play. We would also like to thank Popticals for providing National Series winners with a pair of NYDEF Golf Lenses.
