Sullivan Goes Wire to Wire

Ryan Sullivan Wins at The Dye Club

Ryan Sullivan captures the first of three events at Barefoot Resort Club

Cold and windy were the words of the day for round one at The Dye Club @ Barefoot Resort.  With frigid temperatures, winds, along with a 30 minute frost delay, greeted players, adding to the challenge of this Pete Dye Design course in Myrtle Beach, SC, became daunting.

An even par score of 72 gave Ryan Sullivan (Winston-Salem, NC/UNC-Wilmington) a one shot lead at the conclusion of the day.  Stoney Crouch (Nashville, TN/Lipscomb University) finished round one a shot behind at one-over 73.

Even more frost greeted competitors to start the final round {insert shot of rd 2 frost}.  With play beginning 2 hours later, players were ready. Upon making the turn, Sullivan had increased his lead, shooting -3 on the front nine.  This proved to be too much of lead for players, and Sullivan finished at 142; two shots clear of the field for the 36 hole event to earn the first place check of $5,500.

Also shooting -3 on the front 9 was Paul Howell (Wilson, NC/Campbell University).  Howell, currently ranked in the Top 10 of the World Long Driving Rankings and winner of 2 Long Drive contests in 2018, proved that he does more that just hit bombs, with a -3 at the turn, moving up the leaderboard.

Crouch, who played both Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada and SwingThought TOUR during 2018, stayed consistent throughout the day. A birdie on the final hole guaranteed solo second.  Rounding out the Top 3 was Chip Deason (Evans, GA/University of Alabama).  Deason fired at 66, including a 31 (-4 under) on the final nine holes.

The SwingThought TOUR remains at Barefoot Resort for the next two events at the Davis Love, III and Tom Fazio designed courses, followed by the season ending event at Rio Pinar Golf Club, Orlando, FL.
