Ryan Troyer wins at Gates Four

Entering the final round at Gates Four Country Club, Ryan ‘Jake’ Troyer found himself 5 shots behind leader Daniel Claytor. After a final round bogey free 6-under, Troyer earned his first victory as a professional.

Round 1 began Tuesday, and with the course playing tough. Only 3 players broke par while 2 others shot even. Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey and Daniel Claytor led the way at 2-under par while Taylor Pendrith found himself in 3rd after and opening round 71. Ryan Troyer and Anthony Maccaglia both shot even par 72 to sit in a tie for 4th.

After a tough scoring day for round 1, round 2 didn’t provide much easier conditions as winds gusted to 20 MPH. Claytor started round 2 tied with Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey, but distanced himself after he fired a front 9 4-under 32. Claytor added another birdie on 13, but bogeyed 16 and 17 to shoot a 2nd round 3-under 69 to get to 5-under total. Gainey made the turn during round 2 at 1-under par. After a bogey on 10, followed by 2 birdies on 11 and 14 Gainey found himself 2-under on the day, but a double bogey on 15 dropped him back to even on the day and 2-under for the tournament. Pendrith fired his 2nd consecutive round of 1-under 71 to get into the final pairing with Claytor heading into the final round. Troyer shot an even par round of 72 to remain in 4th position.

After 3 consecutive pars to start his final round, Troyer made an eagle on the par 5 4th hole to cut in to the  5 shot deficit.  He added a birdie on 6 to post a front 9 3-under 33. Troyer then added 3 more birdies on 12,16 and 17 to fire a bogey free 6-under 66 to take the lead in the clubhouse, and eventually earning the victory as well as the $10,000 first place prize.

After the round, Troyer shared via Social Media, “What a day! Shot a final round 66 today to get my first professional win. Want to thank all of my amazing sponsors and supporters for giving me the opportunity to chase my dreams! #Titleist #TaylormadeSwingThought Tour”
