Wednesday August 23rd, 2017: The weather wasn’t the only thing hot last week in Alabama, Bruce Woodall’s game was on fire as he led Wire-to-Wire to win at Hampton Cove. Woodall shot a 3 day total of 18-under par to win by 12 shots, to earn his 2nd National Series victory of the year. Woodall opened the tournament up with a 1st round 65, which included a bogey on the first hole. He bounced back by making birdies on 3,5,6, and 7 making the turn at 3-under. Woodall shot 4-under on the back to open the tournament with a 7-under par round. He followed that up with a 2nd round 66, and a final round 67. This marks Woodall’s second National Series victory of the season. His first win came back in early March at The Country Club of Orange Park.
Fresh off of his win in Knoxville, Grant Leaver notched yet another excellent finish last week. His 6-under total was good enough to finish 2nd. His week was highlighted by a 2nd round 6-under 66, which included 3 straight birdies to start the day, and an eagle on the par 5 15th. In just 7 events this season, Leaver has accumulated 6 finishes of 3rd or better including 3 runner up finishes and 2 victories.
Rounding out the top finishers were Alex Mahlik and Daniel Claytor. Mahlik, who is a native of Huntsville finished the week at 1-under par. Claytor who has been on a roll the past few weeks finished his week at 1-over par for the tournament.
