Bruce Woodall wins Orange Park in playoff after final round 67

Bruce Woodall wins Orange Park in a Playoff after shooting back 9 31.

Monday March 13th, 2017- Bruce Woodall (Yanceyville, NC), a University of Virginia alumni, entered the final round at Orange Park 5 shots behind the leader, Anthony Maccaglia (Tampa, FL). After 9 straight pars, and a bogey on 10 all hopes for a victory seemed lost. That was until Woodall rattled off 3 straight birdies and an eagle on holes 12 through 15.  After Woodall and Maccaglia both made eagle on 15 the final 3 holes had added drama. “It was a great battle today, kinda felt like a shootout after Anthony and I both eagled 15”. Woodall added another birdie on 17 to go to 4-under for the tournament, good enough to earn a spot in a playoff with Maccaglia.

After both Woodall and Maccaglia tied the first playoff hole with a par, Woodall made birdie to win his first National Series win on the SwingThought TOUR. The University of Virginia Alum was excited to put together a solid round after playing the first 2 rounds in 1-over par. “I had a number like -6 or -7 in my head going into the last round Woodall stated. While he didn’t exactly get to his number, he did get to -5 for the day, good enough to get him into the playoff. Woodall is no stranger to playing well in SwingThought TOUR events. He finished top-5 on the Money List last year, and he has won 4 of his last 5 starts, including 3 consecutive State Series events toward the end of last season. Woodall has finished in the top 10 in 8 of his last 9 events played.

Although coming up just short of Woodall in the playoff, Anthony Maccaglia continues to be among the top of the leaderboard of yet another National Series event. Maccaglia, last season’s top money earner, fired a 3 round total of 4-under to get him to the top of the leaderboard where he continues to consistently stay.

The SwingThought TOUR’s next National Series event will be at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, March 22nd-25th followed by an event at the Stonemont Course at Stone Mountain the following week.
